Onirium is a personal project that started out as the thesis project to my studies in illustration. Inspired by my own relationship with the creative practice, Onirium tells the story of Miro, a rabbit whose life is turned on its head when he gets a dream-inducing device. The first illustrations created for this version of the project earned me an Applied Arts Student Award.
My vision for the project having evolved, I am now working on adapting it into a graphic novel. Come back here to follow my progress, from exploration sketches to final pages.
VISUAL DEVELOPMENT

This is the first image I drew for the project, before I had laid out the story. The idea was to evoque a certain connection between the rabbit and the machine.
When Miro dreams for the first time, he is greeted by a bright, colourful environment that contrasts with his dull reality.
To differentiate dreams from reality, I wanted to give this world a more abstract appearance, where colours flow and melt into one another.

Miro's life is a plain as his clothing. White shirt. Black pants. flat tie. But his perfectly circular glasses give him an air of fake seriousness.

To give Miro a sleepier look, I made his head bigger and his ears smaller. This made the head heavy, and ready to fall on a soft, cozy pillow.

Salvi is a character who only appears later in the story, when Miro bumps into him in a dream. He is an art afficionado. His taste is reflected in his classy costume and in his sophisticated mannerisms.
